Gordon Moore észrevette, hogy az integrált áramkörökben a tranzisztorok száma másfél évente megduplázódik, azaz a számítógépek kapacitása másfél évenként kétszer akkora lesz – miközben a költségük ugyanaz maradt (Moore-törvény).
2020.
Azóta eltelt 55 év és az iram nem lassul, sőt. Okostelefonunk ezerszer kisebb, ezerszer olcsóbb, és milliószor nagyobb a kapacitása, mint a hetvenes évek szuperszámítógépeinek, és mára a kvantumszámítógépben levő qubitek száma duplázódik meg évente (Rose-törvény).
Ám bármennyire radikálisnak tűnik is ez a haladás, a valódi újdonságot az jelenti, hogy az exponenciálisan gyorsuló technológiáknak korábban egymástól független hullámai elkezdik egymást erősíteni. Világossá vált, hogy sok szempontból az emberi mivoltukban tesz próbára minket az új világ. Mi történik, amikor egy gyorsuló technológia összekapaszkodik egy, vagy több, ettől független, úgyszintén gyorsuló technológiával? Mire képes például a mesterséges intelligencia, a génszerkesztés és digitális biológia közös erővel az egészségügy területén?

How does the convergence of disruptive technologies transform our everyday lives?
1965.
Gordon Moore recognized that the number of transistors in integrated circuits doubles in every 1.5 years, which means that computing power doubles, while the cost of the computer does not change. (Moore’s law).
2020.
55 year years went by and the pace of change is nothing but accelerating. Our smartphones are thousand times smaller, thousand times cheaper, equipped with a million times bigger capacity than supercomputers in the ‘70s and by now, it is the number of qubits in a quantum computer that doubles (Rose’s law).
Yet, however radical this progress may seem, the real novelty lies in the fact that the waves of exponential technologies that used to exist independently, now start to converge and strengthen each other. It is evident that our mere humanity is challenged in many ways. What happens, when an exponentially accelerating technology merges with one or more independent, also exponentially accelerating technologies? For example what is Artificial Intelligence (AI) capable of in the field of healthcare if we blend it with digital biology and gene editing?
Our speaker at our virtual TEDxBudapestSalon is Steven Kotler, co-author of the book The future is faster than you think.
